The Happy Dance
This is a short poem that was written during the aftermath of Hurricane Isablel in September of 2003, but it applies, as it says, to just about every inclement weather school closing my son’s ever been involved with. Incidentally, I lived in Florida for 14 years, and never had as much hurricane exposure as Isabel gave me in Virginia.

David does the Happy Dance
Every time he gets the chance
To stay at home when weather strikes,
And cancels school — that’s what he likes.
He’ll dance across the kitchen floor,
And moonwalk through an open door.
While wind and weather rage outside,
His smile is open, full, and wide.
And, so, when weather narrows choice,
Some, with cause, will still rejoice.
David’s not alone, it’s true:
His teacher’s Happy Dancin’, too!

This is wonderful! My kids do more of a ‘happy bounce’ than a dance. Please post other poems if you have them!

Thanks as always, sweet BatGirl. I haven’t done that many poems, other than the songs that are not entirely mine. But maybe you’ll inspire me to write some more!

Cool poem! I remember doing that same Happy Dance for a snow day.
